Have you checked your braided flexi hoses lately?
Braided flex hoses and are found in most Australian homes, under sinks and basins. Did you know that braised flexi hoses have a 5-10 year lifespan but can leak or burst prior to this time? Burst flexi hoses can not only cause serious damage to your building and personal property but can also lead to costly insurance claims which may result in an increase to the building insurance premium, and excess for a water related claim. If a fault with an installed flexi hose is suspected, contact Hilton today.
The four main reasons which cause a flexi hose to burst are incorrect installation (over tightening, over stretching, kinking and looseness), the effects of water hammer, the quality of materials in the manufacturing process and household cleaning products being stored within the vicinity of flexible braided hoses in homes.
What can you do? To prevent a burst flexi hose, owners should regularly check hoses by feeling along the outer casing for any signs of leakage, damage, or loose connectors. Ensure all new flexi hoses come with an extended warranty period and check the expiry on the collar of the hose for pre-existing hoses and replace within a reasonable timeframe. Consider the installation of flood stop valves to stem the flow of water or mini stop taps to turn the water off at the location of the damaged hose, in the event of a rupture. If you are going on a holiday, consider shutting off the water at the meter

Do I call a plumber or the authority to fix an issue?
The property owner is responsible for all water pipes and gas lines after the meter into the property, so a plumber will need to be called to resolve issues on the consumer side of the meter. For suspected issues on the other side of the meter, please contact your local water or gas authority.
